Announcement from Oxbow Associates
After 33 years, Brian O. Butler announces his retirement (June 1, 2024) from Oxbow Associates. Since 1991 Brian has provided wetlands and rare species services throughout Massachusetts. Under his guidance more than 3000 projects have been approved and greater than 2500 acres of land has been protected for the benefit of rare species.
Oxbow will continue to provide the same specialized services our clients have come to expect. Brian’s business partner, and Oxbow scientist since 2000, Scott Smyers, will transition from Vice President to President of Oxbow. If anyone understands what has made us successful over his 24 years at Oxbow, it is Scott and we won’t miss a beat. Scott is focused on making sure Oxbow continues to provide outstanding rare species and wetlands services and permitting. In addition, Oxbow is expanding our specialized Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS/drone services) capabilities as well as our ecological restoration/invasive plant control services.
On behalf of the management and employees at Oxbow, we are grateful for Brian’s contribution to conservation in general and training many up-and-coming field biologists. Brian has demonstrated his superior abilities to assess rare species matters within the permitting matrix, ask important questions, and untangle regulations for over 33 years. Please join us in wishing him a happy and enjoyable retirement.
